The Edible Cell
Guys, remember the edible cell? Truly the most delicious of all elementary school science projects. Looking at these is making me so nostalgic, I want to plan an edible cell party where everyone has to bring one.
(Full disclosure: one of these is a professional job. Don’t feel bad if yours looked more like this.)

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - first trailer
Anyone who knows me knows that Extremely Loud is my favorite novel of all time. It is my heart and soul. My copy of this book is one of the most important personal items I own. I have underlined and highlighted and scribbled a million notes within my book, making it completely my own. I could never dream of parting with it. After reading a book, you give a part of yourself to it, and you take a part of it with you for the rest of your life. You will be forever changed. I keep my copy of Extremely Loud on my bedside table, next to Catcher, and flip open to passages every night….just to feel. Words cannot express the impact this book has had on my emotional being.
I have mixed feelings about the trailer. I just rewatched it again, and I’m not gonna lie, I teared up. The clip of Oskar closing his eyes and shaking the tambourine…chills. If I had never read the book, I would think the movie looked incredibly promising. The story the trailer already portrays is heavy, intense, inspiring, and hopeful. But you can already tell that it isn’t going to follow the novel as it could. It seems like it is going to focus more on when his father was alive, and I have a feeling that they might cut out most of his grandparent’s story.
But what makes Extremely Loud so incredible is the mind of Oskar Schell. His imagination, his curiosity, his extremely sensitive heart. The beautiful words spoken with the naivety of the mind of a child, but with the vocabulary and intelligence of an adult. These words make my heart so incredibly heavy, that sometimes it’s hard to breathe. I’m afraid the film might lose this…it might lose what makes the words of the novel so special and so moving.
I guess it’s more skepticism rather than criticism, because I am so protective of this story and it’s characters. But I am hopeful, especially because of the cast, and I am so excited to see the film adaptation of my favorite novel.
